When should a decision about entering a palliative care program be made and who should make it?
When an individual has a serious, progressive illness and is experiencing an impaired quality of life, palliative care services can be helpful.  You should not hesitate to contact us if you think you or a loved one might benefit from our services.

What if our physician doesn't know about Palliative Care of Rockland?
We will be happy to contact your physician to determine if it is the right time for you to receive services.

What does the Palliative Care admission process involve?
The process could not be easier.  After speaking with your physician, we will arrange a convenient time for the Palliative Care Nurse or social worker to come to your home.  They will speak with you about the kind of assistance that you and your family might need.  Together we will develop a plan of care.

Is caring for the patients at home the only place Palliative Care can be delivered?
At the present time, Palliative Care of Rockland provides services in the home.  A palliative care team (that is a collaborative effort of United Hospice of Rockland and Nyack Hospital) can be of assistance if you are hospitalized at Nyack Hospital.

Is palliative care covered by insurance?
Palliative Care of Rockland is funded through a grant from the Rockland County Cancer Institute and through the generosity of donors.  There is no charge for palliative care services at the present time.

Can a patient on palliative care move to hospice care?
There are times when someone who is living with a serious illness would be better served by our hospice program.  When that time comes, a member of the palliative care team will discuss it with you.  The final decision is always up to you.
