UNITED HOSPICE OF ROCKLAND (UHR) YOUTH FOR HOSPICE (YFH)

PLANS 4TH ANNUAL DANCE-A-THON

Open to All High School Students

Friday, MARCH 25, 2011, 7:30 PM – 11:00 PM

(Snow Date: Saturday, March 26)

 

NEW CITY, NY– United Hospice of Rockland (UHR) Assistant Director of Development Lisa Denburg has announced that UHR’s teen group, Youth for Hospice (YFH), is holding its fourth annual Dance-A-Thon on Friday, March 25, 2011, from 7:30 PM-11:00 PM at Albertus Magnus High School, 798 Route 304 in Bardonia. The event is open to all high school students and proceeds benefit United Hospice of Rockland. (The snow date is Saturday, March 26).

.  A minimum of $25 in sponsorships is requested and students are encouraged to find sponsors. Teens raise money by asking friends, family and neighbors to support them as they dance to raise funds for UHR. Prizes will be awarded to students who raise the most.

Registration is limited to the first 300 people and walk-ins are welcome, space permitting. Students are encouraged to pre-register by mailing their forms to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956.             All who dance to benefit hospice receive a free t-shirt and 3.5 community service hours.  Those who raise $100 or more will be entered in a Grand Prize Drawing. There will be a DJ, guitar hero, raffle, coveted prizes for top fundraisers, and refreshments provided by event sponsors, the event is open to all high school students who want to “dance the night away while raising money for United Hospice of Rockland.” 

In a written statement, Lisa Denburg said: “We are asking that community members help notify teens about the YFH Dance-A-Thon. We ask that anyone who knows of teens who might be interested in either joining YFH or in attending the dance-a-thon, please forward his or her contact information to hospice at 845-634-4974 or ldenburg@hospiceofrockland.org.

Youth For Hospice, founded in 2008 by several Clarkstown High School North (New City, NY) students when they were sophomores, is a group of teens who first met to plan a Dance-A-Thon to benefit UHR.  After that success, the YFH teens became involved in working with hospice in both fund-raising and non-fundraising activities.  For more information, contact Y4H at 845-634-4974 or ldenburg@hospiceofrockland.org.
